If you want to help make a better future for our children, able to adapt to a different culture and environment, and seeking for a life time and rewarding experience, SLC may be your place.

Our operations are depending on help from volunteers and support from outside. SLC has welcomed and hosted more than 80 volunteers from 15 nationalities to help make a big difference in the future education and careers of these fine young people. Our volunteers have been involved in our activities such as Teaching English, Teaching Computers, Organic Farming or Recycling Program.

Volunteering at SLC will offer you:

Volunteering with Us

As a volunteer you work at a learning center in the beautiful surroundings of the village Keramas where you teach English or Computer to children from the local community. Keramas, Gianyar Bali. It is about 20 minutes east of Ubud with little or no tourists; you will be experiencing the real Bali and interacting with the Balinese community.

There are many types of Volunteering Program in Slukat Learning Center:

 

Teaching English Class

Volunteer will teach English to children from age 9 to 17 years old. There are 150 children studying English, an average of 10 to 20 student per class.The class is divided into three level of English Class Elementary Class, Intermediate Class, Advanced Class 


Volunteer will teach English from Monday to Thursday. The morning class starts from 9:00 to 10.30 am. The afternoon class begins from 3:30 to 6.30 pm. 


Teaching Computer Class

Volunteer will teach Computer to student age 15 to 19 years. They are 10 high school students and drop outs. Volunteer will teach how to use internet and Microsoft office program. The class is twice a week Tuesday and Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

          


Teaching Day Care (Playgroup)

Volunteer will teach the toddler to play, learn alphabets and number, give nutrious food and monitor the children progress. There are 25 toddler come to the center three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from 8:00 to 10 am.

 


Teaching and working in the Organic Garden

Volunteer can work in our organic garden with the students by making compost, planting the seeds, watering the plants, maintain the plants. The student are the children from the English class. The volunteer can also explain about the important of saving the environment. The activities are from Monday to Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.

 


Family Program

Slukat Learning Center has hosted several family volunteering; the parents can volunteer teaching English, computer, day care or organic garden. The children can participate in the class or help out in the organic garden.The benefit of having family program is that the volunteer children and the Slukat’s students can became friends. They will have mutual understanding of different culture and a good experience for the volunteer children to know underprivileged students. We have a cottage that can house a family which consist two rooms with a connecting doors.

  

You will have your own class or teach together with another volunteer, depending on the size of the class. For English and Computer classes, a curriculum is available that you can follow. Besides teaching English  and Computer with the children, you can also focus on organic farming and recycling project.  Your own input and ideas are always appreciated.

Volunteers living onsite at Slukat will be teaching from time to time together with volunteers from PURE for Kids and Travel to Teach organisation.

You will have enough time to discover all the beautiful places in Bali.

You are also welcomed to join the center’s free Traditional Balinese Dance and Yoga Class.
